About the Residencehotels Group

Residencehotels is a family-run business. And not just because it's always been owned by members of the same household. We can call ourselves a big family in a broader sense. Many of our partners have been working with us for more than 20, 25 or even 30 years. Some of them started their careers at our properties and have never left since. Here is its history, told through the words of one of its protagonists: Lorenzo Conci, company CEO and son of Fabio, one of the founders.

After the Second World War, brothers Fabio (born in 1920) and Alessandro (b. 1909) Conci, both engineers, set up a building business. Fabio, who had graduated at Bologna University, had been declared unfit to serve in the army as he suffered from phlebitis. After getting a degree at Milan Polytechnic University in 1932, Alessandro became a second lieutenant and fought on the African front. Taken prisoner by the British, he went back to Trento at the end of 1946. Together with Fabio, who was already working in the building industry, he established a company called Alessandro e Fabio Conci Costruzioni.

Our history

journey made of skiing challenges and hospitality

The history of the Residencehotels Group is intertwined with that of a whole area, of its tourism growth and its ski-oriented nature. The mountains, skiing and hospitality are part of our DNA.

1. 1946: the original building company was established

The family-owned building company called 'Alessandro e Fabio Conci Costruzioni' started business. Results were good, the business grew and was assigned important reconstruction jobs all over the Trentino-Alto Adige region.

2. 1950-1960: the economic miracle

The 1950s in Italy are identified with the reconstruction of the country. In its heyday, the Conci brothers' company gave work to as much as 500 people, with an established workforce of about 300. Fabio Conci, then President of the Trento province branch of the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI), established the 3-Tre skiing competition in Madonna di Campiglio in collaboration with four friends of his. Almost 70 years on, this event is still part of the men's Alpine Ski World Cup tour.

3. 1960-1970: the FISI years

While his building company was carrying on its business throughout the region, as a huge mountain, climbing and skiing enthusiast, Fabio began to also erect buildings in mountain resorts. After being elected as President of FISI, he even managed to bring the 1970 Alpine Ski World Championships to Val Gardena.

4. 1970-1990: the Residencehotels Group was born

The 1970 World Championships, combined with the growing interest in mountain tourism, helped establish the Residencehotels Group, which at the time included Residence Stueres and Residence Sassongher in Selva di Val Gardena, Residence Contrin in Canazei, Hotel Antares in Selva di Val Gardena, as well as Residence Lastei in San Martino di Castrozza and Residence Ambiez in Madonna di Campiglio.

5. 1990-2000: new investments for the Group

Garni Aritz in Campitello di Fassa, Residence Lores in Selva di Val Gardena and Residence Boè in Santa Cristina di Val Gardena joined the group

6. 2000-2020: the Residencehotels Group in recent years

All properties were refurbished and modernised. The first hotel management programme was created. Paperwork was replaced by digital solutions, emails began to be used instead of phone calls e the internet opened the doors to customers from all over the world, attracted by the Dolomites' unparalleled natural beauty and wide range of activities.
